Melton Family History Group Inc. was formed in 1994 to satisfy the needs of people in Melton who were researching their family histories and who wanted to share their discoveries, their problems and the expertise they had developed.  An active group, members represent the diversity that makes modern Australia - with interests covering Germany, Holland, Scandinavia, Britain, North America, New Zealand, the Islands of the Pacific, as well as all Australian states.

The recent addition to the Melton Library of a Local and Family History Collection has made the researching of our families more convenient to undertake.  The Library, in conjunction with Melton Family History Group, has worked towards providing a comprehensive and valuable resource.  An extensive microfiche and CD ROM collection and a wide range of books enable our members and the public to pursue most avenues of their research locally.  The collection receives yearly funding and as a result of this, it is constantly expanding.  There are indexes available from the Library for both the Microform & CD ROM collection and the Local & Family History Book collection and these are updated as needed.  Click on the icons below to view the Local & Family History Collection at Melton Library.

Melton Family History Group run a series of workshops on various aspects of family history research at the Melton Library.  We cover topics that we know our members and the public may want some more information and guidance on and the workshops have proved to be very successful.  The workshops usually run for 2 to 3 hours (depending on the topic) and there is a small charge to cover the copying of handouts.  The workshops are advertised at the Library and bookings are essential by phoning the Library on 9743 1168.  Future workshops will be advertised on the web site.
